`Trivandrum is the capital city of Kerala and at a distance of one kilometer from city, “Napier Museum and Zoo” is located. The Museum and the garden near to it are favourite stopovers for the foreigners as well as the country men. The Art Museum exhibit many olden paintings, some of them portraying the Rajas of Travancore. Many sculptures and other antique things are exhibited in the museum. The newer attraction at here is “The Natural History Museum” located inside the same campus. It showcases the huge collection of stuffed animals and birds. The garden near to the museum has got a rich collection of flowering plants and medicinal plants. The Zoo is also in the same campus and has got many rare animals, birds, reptiles and trees. Zoo is open for the visitors in all days except Monday.
Another attraction at Trivandrum is the science and technology museum. There is also a planetarium called Priyadershini planetarium at here. There are more than 300 items exhibited in museum categorised in 10 galleries, each related to science or engineering topics.
Hill palace at trippunitura is the largest archaeological museum in Kerala. This palace complex has forty nine buildings that reflect traditional architectural style. The main exhibits in the palace are crown and ornaments of Cochin royal family, paintings, weapons, sculptures and coins etc. There is a heritage museum, a deer park, a children’s park and a pre-historic park at here. Other museum in Ernakulam district is Indo-Portuguese Museum and Maritime Museum.
Archaeological Museum at Thrissur is located in the Thrissur zoo compound. The major exhibits are statues of major personalities, models of temples, monuments etc. Thrissur Zoo is one of the oldest Zoos in the country.
Krishnapuram palace at Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district is another museum that exhibits ancient’s paintings and inscriptions, sculptures and sword etc.
Arakkal Museum at Kannur is dedicated to the Arakkal family which is the only Muslim royal family in Kerala. Parasinikadavu Snake Park is a place where snakes and some reptiles are preserved and conserved. There are about 150 varieties of snake at here.
