The most famous Kathakali School in Kerala is Kalamandalam located in Cheruturuthi. A number of foreigners visit Kalamandalam to watch Kathakali performance and some of them stay back to learn. Kathakali is also conducted during temple festivals in various parts of Kerala. It is considered to the symbol of Kerala culture.

One of the major art form in Kerala is Ottam Tullal. It was founded by Kunjan Nambiar and is usually a satire on the prevalent political happenings and prejudices of the region. It is performed by a single actor. Theyyam is a form of worship at Malabar district in Kerala.

This art form is performed by lower caste community people. People believe Theyyam as a God and seek blessings. There are about 400 types of Theyyam and they are usually conducted in Kaavu. The most famous temple festival in Kerala is Thrissur Pooram and is held at Vadakkumnada Temple in Thrissur town. It is a visual extravaganza with flag hoisting (Kodiyettam), fireworks, display of caparisons etc. Although it is a Hindu festival, people of all religion and section from Kerala attend this function.

Pulikali is a colourful art form of Kerala performed by trained artists painted like tiger and hunters. The dance with the beats of instrument like Udukku and Takil. This is performed on the 4th day of Onam festival to entertain people in Thrissur. The major art forms in Kerala are Mohiniyattam, Keralanadanam, Bharathanatyam, Thiruvathira etc. Kuravar kali is a tribal art form in Kerala. Kerala has marked a golden name in the World of literacy and literature. The state has produced many renowned writers including S.K.Pottakkad, Basheer, Thakazhi, M.T.Vaasudevan Nair, Kamaladas, G.Sankarakuruppu etc. The films and dramas in Kerala are famous all over the globe.
