Chinnar wildlife sanctuary is a must visit destination near Munnar. Chinnar River and Pambar River are flowing through this sanctuary. The spectacular charm of Thoovanam waterfalls in the Pambar River is another attraction of here. A number of tourist visit here to enjoy natural walk along the river banks. You can go for trekking and can enjoy camping at here. The sanctuary is rich in many rare wild animals, birds and about thousand specious of flowering plants. Devikulam is a small hill station which is at a distance of 5 kilometres from Munnar. Sita Devi Lake is a sacred and serene lake at here. It is believed that the water in the lake has got curative power. You can also visit Pallivasal waterfalls near Devikulam.
Marayoor is located at the distance of 42km from Munnar and is the only place in Kerala where natural sandalwood forest is protected. It will be a great experience to visit this forest area. Another attraction at here is Munyara Dolmens that belong to the Iron Age. These are burial chambers made of stones. Rock paintings are another thing to visit at Marayoor. Rajeev Gandhi children’s park is a charm park that attract tourist at Marayoor. You can see deer; monkey etc in the adjoining reserve forest.
Ramakkalmedu is the beautiful hill station in the Munnar – Thekkady route. It is at a distance of 50km from Nedumkandam. The hill station is famous for the statues of Kuravar and Kurathi. You can see panoramic views of Tamil Nadu town like Theni, Kambam, Vaiga etc. from the altitudes of Ramakkalmedu. It is an ideal spot for trekking and hill station photography.
Cheeyappara water fall is a fabulous place that you can see on your journey from Cochin to Munnar. It is located between Neriyamangalam and Adimaly. The main attraction of this fall is that it cascades down in 7 steps. You can also visit Valara waterfalls in the Deviyar River nearby. This wall is surrounded by thick forest and is a best place for halt in your Munnar trip.
Attukal waterfalls are at a distance of 9km from Munnar on way to Pallivasal. Roaring flow of water in monsoons is a fabulous visual treat.
