This beautiful hill station stands at a height of 3500 feet above the sea level. The story of the name Ramakkalmedu is from the Hindu epic Ramayana. Ravana, the king of Lanka abducted Sita- the wife of Rama. Rama kept his feet at the tip of this place to search Ravana and hence got the name Ramakkalmedu that means ‘the Land of Rama’s stone’ or ‘land where Rama kept his leg’.

The major fascination at here is the abundance of constant gentle breeze. A wind speed of 35 km per hour is always received at here throughout the year. Wind energy farm is installed at here and is the second of this type in Kerala. It has got a capacity of about 12.5 Mw. The reason why this fabulous place remains unexplored in tourism views is the lack of development programs at here. If proper maintain is done and focus is given for tourism based developments, this hill station can become a major travel destination in Kerala.

Don’t surprise to hear that the famous Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio visited this place and made a comment, ‘If there is a paradise on earth, it is at here!!’

You can reach this hill station about 15 km away from Nedumkandam on the Munnar – Thekkady route. The nearest railway station is at Changanacherry about 93 km and nearest airport is Madurai about 140 km.
